About Operation Christmas Welcome (Elland)

‘Operation Christmas Welcome Elland’ is a new initiative, responding to a vision given to one of the members of Southgate Methodist Church that Christians in Elland should respond to the needs of the community around them by seeking to show God’s love in action.

This comes at a time of great social need, when organisations and structures that were once at the centre of our communities are no longer to be found there. It is indeed questionable whether our community in the early part of the 21st Century can be said to have any central focus at all.

Yet we believe firmly that God is to be found in the midst of life, in the midst of the ups and downs, the trials and tribulations of our world. That the God who came to this world out of love as a babe at Christmastime should be concerned with all those who are part of his creation goes without saying. That we, as Christians together in Elland, could and should seek to respond to that love by extending our arms in welcome we believe is the imperative to which we are being called.

Pray for us as we seek to respond to the call.

Pray for those we serve that they may glimpse something of the love of God through the work we undertake.

Pray for Elland and all those who live, work and worship there.
